Does Advertising Control Democracy?

You would think John Edwards had fallen off the planet. The national press has ignored Edwards and in the process, guaranteed his poor showing in this week’s primary. Does the amount of money spent on TV and radio commercials influence the editorial coverage in talk shows? If the current trend in magazines also holds in broadcast, then it does, sadly. It is nearly impossible today to find a magazine that hasn’t “sold” advertorial to advertisers. The advertiser with the deepest pockets gets the coverage. Where are the ethics?
